Consider using a decorative cup, a wide mouthed vase, a unique jar or decorated jar, an antique tin can or decorated tin container to hold things that might otherwise be left lying on the counter.  This gives a place for brushes, utensils, etc. that might normally just take up counter space and appear messy. (inexpensive, creative, check this out...)

Try rolling up wash cloths or hand towels and stuffing them into a decorative wide-mouthed container either on the counter or on a shelf for guests to use. (places like target and wal-mart have decorative jars that are perfect for this and they are resonable...)

Consider adding a small shelf with hooks in a row below it to keep things off the counters and floors.  The shelves can hold things like shampoo and conditioner bottles and the hooks; towels, robes, and such...

And what about a small shelf above the toilet to stack towels, store reading material, to get things off the counters and floor making them convenient to everyone...

Ah, and what about this clever idea:  If you have room, add a short bathtub level counter or even roll-up shelf that becomes the facing to the tub and provides a small shelf to set a book on while you are washing.

Go to an import-export shop and find attractive whicker baskets that you can use to store towels, bottles, most anything that will be used but you want out of the way.  Then you can set them on a shelf or on the floor next to the sink, etc. to keep things looking organized.

Look where you may have space that is not being used:  under a table, next to a piece of furniture and then use decorative boxes for storage of magazines for reading or keeping toys out of the way...

Here is a unique thought:  If you have wood floors, and you don’t want to use throw rugs you can paint patterns on the wood flooring to give a unique separation to a space such as under a coffee table, a dining area that is not separate, a free standing area, etc.

If you have all stained cabinets in the kitchen, you can actually paint a section or two to give a feeling of increased space.  If the cabinets are a dark stain then you would want to use a light color that matches the room decor.

If you have a large wall to fill, consider shortening it by framing in a specific area and then doing a picture gallery within the frame.  You can also frame in more than one area depending upon the size of your wall and then treat the wall much like you would a series of box shelves (gallery within one, a decorative piece inside another, leave blank within another, etc. to give your wall character.

What about painting the backsplash tile?  It can significantly change the look of a room and is very inexpensive.

Lighting can have a significant impact in any room.  Track lighting, recessed lighting, pendant lights, shades on overhead lighting, etc.  You can also use low voltage lights to give an ambient feeling to the room by adding them under overhead counters, under cabinets, in a box along the ceiling…

Replacing faucets in the kitchen and/or bathroom can give a new sparkle to each room.

This may seem simple but it can make a big difference.  Consider a colorful shower curtain with towels to match.  For instance, if the curtain has a flower pattern, then look for solid color towels to match the colors in the flowers.

Don’t forget a wallpaper and trim.  We actually had a beautiful series of tall windows along one wall as you entered the house and we just put a wide boarder around each window which dramatically improved the look of the room.

You can also add perspective to a room by doing one solid color on just one wall in a room and then consider using a wood trim.

Consider adding new light fixtures to each room.  They can add a whole new perspective along with character.

Consider some subtle stripes on a portion of the wall such as below the window line.

Shutters can add a lot of warmth and character to a room.

What about adding trim around a mirror such as in your bathroom?  That can really dress up the area.

Mirrors can significantly change perspective and make rooms seem bigger than they are.  They can also make large walls very interesting and pull in the rest of the room, especially if the rest of the room is warm and inviting.

Here is another great way to add elegance to any room:  add thicker molding along the floor and around the doors.  You can then take it all to another level by adding wainscoting. Want a professional touch? Visit Millennium Woodwork.

What about changing your window treatments?  It can bring a whole new look to the room.

Another simple tip is to change out all of your hardware on your cabinets to give everything a new look.
